Community Medicine MD Track

To increase the number of physicians caring for patients in mid-size and rural communities, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, in collaboration with Bon Secours Mercy Health, has launched a new community medicine medical degree track.

This track offers medical student applicants interested in practicing community medicine a new option. Students will complete the first two years of training at The Ohio State University in Columbus and the remaining two years of core clinical training at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. In addition to high-quality patient care training, medical students will develop skills to be engaged leaders in the communities they serve.

The program also provides medical students with an interprofessional education, allowing them to learn and work alongside clinicians and students of pharmacy, nursing, therapy, social work, and behavioral health. This holistic perspective highlights the value each discipline brings to healthcare.

This new program is a direct result of Healthy State Alliance’s vision to cultivate future generations of medical professionals.
