Key Education Efforts of Healthy State Alliance
Community Medicine MD Track
To increase the number of physicians caring for patients in mid-size and rural communities, The Ohio State University College of Medicine, in collaboration with Bon Secours Mercy Health, has launched a new community medicine medical degree track.
This track offers medical student applicants interested in practicing community medicine a new option. Students will complete the first two years of training at The Ohio State University in Columbus and the remaining two years of core clinical training at Mercy Health – St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima. In addition to high-quality patient care training, medical students will develop skills to be engaged leaders in the communities they serve.
The program also provides medical students with an interprofessional education, allowing them to learn and work alongside clinicians and students of pharmacy, nursing, therapy, social work, and behavioral health. This holistic perspective highlights the value each discipline brings to healthcare.
This new program is a direct result of Healthy State Alliance’s vision to cultivate future generations of medical professionals.
Continuing Education
Healthy State Alliance sponsors continuing education events on relevant topics for today’s clinicians, including COVID-19 for the Long Haul, Addiction Treatment, and Maternal Health. Bon Secours Mercy Health, through St. Rita’s Medical Center, has earned Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) accreditation. As a jointly accredited provider, we offer education and CE credits to various clinical functions.
Clinical education is also a forefront focus of Healthy State Alliance, with collaborations in Graduate Medical Education and Interprofessional educational opportunities.
